It has been nearly three years since hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast region. Only recently, because of an eerily similar event in the Midwest, has Katrina been mentioned in the national media. Most of us have been removed from the debris and destruction that Katrina brought to Louisiana and Mississippi. Yet, thousands are still dealing with the aftermath.
My friends, the Bridges, are heading into the Katrina region to do ministry. Brian, Karen and their girls will soon move to the Mississippi gulf coast to plant a church. Actually, they may end up re-planting a rather historic church. God is at work in their hearts and he has opened a door for this family to do Kingdom work in an area that many of us have long ago forgotten.
Please join me in praying for the Bridges family as they trust the Lord for resources and guidance in ministry. Even as homes and businesses have been rebuilt, there are certainly many individuals and families that do not have the solid foundation that is found in Christ. May the Lord bless this new effort to share the gospel, the only source of strength and healing for broken hearts and lives.

Average Guy Books for Summer Reading
C. J. Mahaney has released his list of recommended summer reading for us guys with "average intelligence" (Source). Even if you will not be doing any reading this summer you should read the set up by CJ just for a good chuckle. He is priceless. It is clear why I like him so much. We are very much the same. (uh hm) Let me clarify. There are a few minor exceptions. He has written several well received books, had a wonderfully successful pastoral ministry for nearly 3 decades, can really preach, pals around with the likes of Mohler and Piper and then...well, there's me. But I relate to him because I too see myself as a very average guy. And I love sports.Anyway, I may not read any of the books on his list personally, but I appreciate his selections. Moreover, I appreciate the concept behind them. To understand you must read the set up.
By the way I am currently reading The Courage to be Protestant by David Wells. Very good thus far. Another freebie from T4G (thanks so much!!).

Who's In Favor of High Gas Prices?
Raise your hand if you would like to see the price of gas continue to go higher.
Apparently Barak Obama is in favor of high gas prices. He said as much here. Wonder if this will get the attention of the Democrats who drive cars and struggle to fill them up each week? Doubtful.

Dry & Weary Land
"O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water." These are the opening words of Psalm 63. The above picture is a Thad Noyes original, I stole it from his blog. Great work Thad!
As he pointed out on his page, this picture is a great illustration of the spiritually barren world in which we live. All the more reason for us to drink from the well of God's truth and share it with those who are thirsty.
