Culture of Death

Today is the 37th anniversary Row v. Wade, the US Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the United States. Since that decision was handed down countless babies have been aborted. In addition to the tremendous loss of life, there are many thousands of women who are no doubt still wrestling with the emotional turmoil of murdering their unborn children. The Weekly Standard has an excellent article that speaks of the collateral damage caused by abortion. Sadly, you will never read this sort of perspective in your local daily paper.

Here in Louisville there is a wonderful ministry that is making a difference on the front lines of the battle for life, A Woman's Choice. They are standing with women who are dealing with unplanned/crisis pregnancies. The team at AWC is providing invaluable assistance to mothers and children.

Coincidentally, over the weekend my wife and I watched Bella on DVD. It is an independent film that was released in 2006. The movie has a solid pro-life message. If you have not seen it, I recommend you give it a look. Here is a review from Phil Boatwright.

When you stop and ponder the tragic effects of abortion, it is heartbreaking. We are a nation that has made it okay to participate in a culture of death.

McCain Right on Abortion

Both presidential hopefuls appeared on the platform at Saddleback Church. I really have nothing to say about the event in general. I will say this, it is not likely that these two political candidates will be appearing at FBC Prospect anytime soon.

Anyway, George has a good post that contains an edited video that is worth watching. The question from Rick Warren, posed to both McCain and Obama, was about their view on abortion. Obama did a whole lot of talking but really said nothing worth hearing. Needless to say, McCain is right on abortion.

Hillary Spells Danger for the Unborn

Justin Taylor provides an enlightening blurb from author Paul Kengor, a noted presidential historian. He has penned the book God and Hillary Clinton: A Spiritual Life. The title itself is almost laughable. At any rate, it should come as no surprise that this candidate is vehemently pro abortion. But, this is only one issue, among many, that conservatives would disagree on with Mrs. Clinton. The list is long. How will things play out? Time will tell, as the 2008 election approaches.

However, as Christians we do not put our ultimate trust in elected officials - of any stripe. We trust the Sovereign God. The one who created man in His image. The God whom the Psalmist said, "formed my inward parts" and "wove me in my mother's womb." Indeed, we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." The "doctrine" of abortion, that Clinton preaches, may end a life, but it does not negate the truth of Psalm 139.
